What does it say that a former penal colony is so far Bunny’s favorite part of Patagonia? The southern most city in the world. Antarctica is the next stop. The end of the world, as they say here. Was Patagonia’s penal colony for the hardest criminals for decades. Now it is the primary launching pad for trips to Antarctica. It is stunning, beautiful in every direction and a very pleasant city. Amazing forest so where we drove for 50 miles to an “estancia” (ranch) of 45,000 acres that was the first ranch in this part of the world–same family since 1886. Now it is just a tourist “ecolodge”, having divested themselves of sheep and cattle some years ago. Gorgeous! Here’s the view from the estancia’s dining room on the Beagle channel—which connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
