A typical night tied to the crown of a tree… or as Carlos first observed: “we managed to hit a tree in the middle of the river”. This is how deep the river is….. we are literally tied to the top of the tree for the night. Posted on May 13, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply

The boatyard in a tiny village upstream where the Tucano was built and how it was built… and could no longer be built because a ban on small-scale logging has wiped out building boats of the Tucano size. Meanwhile, international corporations log the equivalent of one football-sized rainforest every hour. Power and money. Retaining the small, village based, boat building business would produce more local jobs with less timber cutting but these people have no power and even less money.
