The commanding view of the Vis harbor which, with the batteries on the other side, would provide such a crossfire that only the reckless would even think of trying to enter without permission. Posted on June 18, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
The top of the “defensive” fortifications–a commanding view in every direction, including the sea where the decisive battle between the French and English occured in 1811–to decide exactly what?. Posted on June 18, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
The inner passageways to the fort supporting its singular function. The resource commitment for a string of these across the “domain” would drain any governmental treasury. Posted on June 18, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
Come out, come out, wherever you are…. something for James Bond. This supposedly secret submarine base would have been well known in US intelligence by 1968 when I was in the Navy. Today, with the equipment available, they’d know what the crew had for lunch…. let’s just use defensive systems only, please! Posted on June 18, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
The central plaza in Hvar (with the ancient Spanish(?) fort uphill). We have the “stroll”, the “strut”, the “swagger” depending, I suppose, on the individual’s sense of self and the cultural hierarchy. We certainly have plenty of short dudes who strut. Vanquished cultures struggling for attention through their swagger. The nonplused who just stroll. We have the “spinners”, tourists whose heads and bodies swivel as they walk down the street trying to capture everything. We have the contemporary “cyclops” who have one eye visible and the other in the camera, iPhone, or the like. We have the the new “wobblies”–(not the political group of the 1920s)– young beauties who move deliciously but awkwardly in their high shoes on rough cobblestone streets and sidewalks. We all move. We all tell stories about ourselves in the way that we do. Posted on June 18, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
