The interior….. it IS SO HARD out here in the wilderness….. to sleep here to the night sounds of Africa……. Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
Another day in the field: Thetford refuge, a privately-owned, 12,000 acre or so, passion of its owner. No commerce, no hunting, no public access, by-invitation only, our AWMC friends arranged a visit and tour. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Here, a Sable silhouette against the setting skyline. Another two Sable, more up close and personal. Striking colors, particularly from the front. Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
Reportedly a Rhino made this hole in the Land Rover…… Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
White Rhino….. 11 survive here. 3 were poached a while back for the horn on just one….. now they are de-horned and there are armed guards 24-7 with orders to shoot on sight. The Land Rover got close enough (or, really, the Rhino got close enough) to touch the ears of one. He didn’t seem to mind….. Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord Reply
Part of some amazing paintings on a rock wall under a rock overhang lying quietly, undisturbed, for thousands of years—unpublicized, non-commercial, at the end of a hike at Thetford. Estimated to be 3,000 years old, they are layer-upon-layer, color-upon-color, almost translucent, detailed record of life, animals, hunting, and a funeral? Of course we can only speculate what the artist wanted us to see. Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord 1
Guy sees a funeral celebration in this portion….. anatomically correct dancers surrounding the body in the fetal position, his wife and child to his left, large shaman on the right, and to the right of the scene, plants germinating for new life. One could speculate for years on all of the separate scenes, familiar animals, and unfamiliar animals. Posted on September 28, 2012 by thebunguycord 1
