They do village-scale churches really well here…..
The village of Gythio from the protective spit that creates the harbor that made the village possible.
Our lodging at Xifias…. no buildings around, few people, our room was top dead center in the photo.

Flowers, grapes, figs, you name it, line these tiny streets. The smell is intoxicating.
People still live in these incredibly charming and warm “Lower Town” streets but one suspects living there is more difficult than a day trip.
One of many narrow, steep, difficult Byzantine streets….. no place for a ground war, which was probably the intent.
