Priorities: There were 5 rangers, each with his own AK-47 machine gun, protecting this D9 Cat and operator at the entrance to the park….. and no rangers in the park itself. Image Reply
The next 3 photos were supposed to be a panorama from east to west. They aren’t in order. I sent them to the web site in order, but…… anyway, be patient. They will appear below. This cub is one of 3 cubs in a pride of 5 that were all hanging out on this fallen tree. Clearly pretty stressed out by our presence….. Image Reply
The wildebeest has a number of things that contribute to its amazing survival. Among them is the phenomenon that they all drop their calves within days of each other. With so many babies on the ground, the predators just cannot keep up. These are the same “black dots” visible from up on the rim of the crater. Image Reply
The bottom of the Ngorongoro Crater is almost flat. Visibility is good, making it harder for the predators. The comfort level of the critters—here buffalo, elephant, and zebra—shows, at least in daylight. Image Reply
