I don’t know how many times I have been only 15 kilometers from that Damthang only to turn the wrong way……. again. This time to Paro over the highest pass in Bhutan: 14,000 feet (Chelela)… for the 2nd time that day.

The last place we stayed in Bhutan. This is just part of the entrance hall/lobby …a staggering piece of art by a Nepalese investor who believes in the future of Bhutan tourism. National Geographic rated this place as one of the wonders of lodges throughout the world.

Who knows what trouble we’re off to as we leave the entrance hall of the lodge owned by the Queen’s mother–5 star… we had an 800 square foot suite on the bank of a large trout stream.

Retail therapy, income redistribution, and site seeing, in this town…. so far our hands are doing what IS most important.

We visited so many forts, temples, monasteries, nunneries, Stoopas, and other places it is hard to keep them straight except in a slower walk-through than this blog permits. Here we are in front of the temple and monastery in Haa.

Our guide Phuntsho and travel assistant in Bhutan, Vikki, outside of the monastery where we had a private blessing ceremony with a Lama (senior monk). In the overwhelming temple, 8 monks, chanting, horns, drums, then words in English, then blessings, neck mala, and Q&A–he had been to Spirit Rock! Small world.
