Well, I dunno what come of ol’ Harry. He stopped by the station to get some gas and just sort of walked off into the desert…… (the old ghost town of Laws in the southern end of the Owens Valley) Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
Back when the Owens Valley was a thriving farming area the town of Laws was just one of the many stops on the railroad that went all the way to Carson City, Nevada. Today the train has no where to go, no freight to haul and Laws is a museum. They say that westerns were filmed here, certainly one starring Steve McQueen. The old Post Office in Laws with Wanted posters still on the walls. It was noteworthy that a white man who had committed robbery had a reward ten times higher than a Hispanic man who had committed robbery……. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
There is something out there….. and this tile had even more meaning when we rode mules in the Grand Canyon. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
The Eastern Sierra from the now desert-like Owens Valley… it was an active and lively farming community in the early 1900s when Los Angeles came up and quietly bought up farm after farm for the water rights. Once LA had critical mass of water rights, they started building canals and pipelines to move the water to LA. Very controversial and led to bloody battles between the locals and LA’s thugs. The locals lost. LA bulldozed the farm buildings away such that today it looks like there never were farms here. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
We had an open road to ourselves. The Tesla would not have traveled this country successfully. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
While perfectly adapted to this environment….. this Joshua tree looks pretty lonely. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
Out here in the rough, rough, rough, desert and mountains…. what should we happen to find? A Russian Ural motorcycle with sidecar with a European couple who had come down from Canada, then to Mexico, and then back up to Death Valley. They said all of this happened without a hitch. Good THING! Only one small reserve gas can. Posted on March 6, 2014 by thebunguycord Reply
