A fraction of the black-necked crane reserve. They nest in the sparse willows and rushes along the creeks. Our lodge is on the opposite side of the valley.

Our lodge in the village where the black necked crane reserve is. Our room had a commanding view of the reserve and the farms around it.

More weavers (more advanced) at work on pieces that we are told can take 5 months…. We are also told that a man who has a wife who is an advanced weaver doesn’t ever have to work…..

Construction is occurring everywhere. Their materials (hand-hewn spruce and pine) are difference as is their technique. The doorways and windows are built first, the monk comes and blesses the house, and the walls, white ribbons festooned, etc., are built around the doors and windows.

This image captured the charm, grace, and antiquity of the place. Painted on hand-made paper by this charming fellow standing next to some gorgeous lady. Both the lady and the painting have to come home.
