Over and over again we are reminded that these beautiful beasts have an incredible sense of family, closeness, and compassion…. Not just among their immediate family but also the other members of their group. The young seem to be able to go to any adult for attention and comfort.

This bull had just reached up with its trunk as casually as you might reach for an apple from a tree—and then broke the entire limb off so that it could munch on the leaves. Later the whole tree would be uprooted so that the roots could be eaten too.

All in one bush: on the lower left a Yellow Fronted Canary, in the middle a Superb Starling, and on the right a Lilac Breasted Roller—each quite stunning.
