Some of the bees build their hives on the OUTSIDE of the trees. The lobes of their honey cones are ready visible and accessible—vulnerable. Here Joseph is getting us some fresh—and utterly delicious—honey. The bees went after him and he ran through the bush for 100 meters or so until they left. We drove just 50 feet or so next to him so when the chase was over, he could get back in and provide us with the fruit of his efforts. Image Reply
It is truly dry before the rainy season—which was just starting on the day we left. Dramatic and much-needed rain brought an almost instantaneous response from the vegetation (blooms within hours) and wildlife. Image Reply

They hang the bee hives in the trees here…… and there are also many hives in and on trees….. as you have seen. Image Reply
The White-Browed Sparrow-Weavers sitting proudly by their nests….. the males hoping to attract a female admirer of….. well, their handiwork—the nest—if not the male bird himself. Image Reply
